Question for my Crafters out there...

How many of you have used a hot-fix crystal setter?

Well I am getting one for Christmas .. maybe sooner so that I can "glam up" a few things and I am not sure of how it works or how to use it for that matter. The directions aren't that clear for me -- everything has to be quite visual for me to understand. Don't laugh -- I know some of you are the same way!!

If you have a hot-fix setter, please help me out!! I am thinking for a quilt (think of a midnight blue sky with a creamy moon and large star appliques) that I want set some "twinkling" stars on it. Can the crystals be set on other things than just fabric. .. say like on metal or plastic items? I will be most grateful for your help, tips, hints, etc. for this... I know you guys are wonderful in helping out others.

Well, gotta get some much needed sleep. Tomorrow evening starts the first evening of working till 11.30 pm ..ugh!

Christmas is coming!

Can you believe that Christmas will be here in less than 2 weeks...a fortnight!! It's almost crazy!! Ok it is crazy, but I am thankful that all my shopping is done... YAY!

I have been working a lot here lately and this next week I will be working nearly everyday. That's the good news... the not so good news is that we (the store) will be open till 11 pm! OMG -- I couldn't believe it. People actually shop that late?? seriously? UGH!! I am not happy that we will be open that late at night but I know it's all about the $$$$$... and greed, too.

A little question for everyone -- what is your favorite Christmas song of all time?

There was a survey done and people really like "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby. Personally that's not my favorite ... mine would have to be any and all of the songs sung by The Muppets and John Denver -- YES I have the CD -- lol!!

Well, I am off to clean the house. You know that Santa cannot come and visit a dirty house -- you didn't know that?? Well, it's how I get my clan to help clean - my son wants Santa to come so he cleans -- wink wink -- it really works for the younger kiddos. I have had a super clean house EVERY year in December.

I haven't been stitching much since I have been working - hopefully I will get some time off during the holidays and get some items finished. To all of you -- Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Hello out there!!

I know it's been awhile again since I have posted anything. Life has been a bit crazy since I have been working now. I do enjoy my job, though dealing with some customers and employees can be difficult.

Did you have a good Thanksgiving? I did sorta. My family went over to my in-laws for some yummy food and then I had to work for the evening!! YES I had to work on Thanksgiving!! I think we were the only craft store to be open and of course we had some great deals. People came out in droves it seemed. I know what a couple of my gifts are too --heehee!!

Right now it's raining out and it's terribly cold too. The weather people have been saying that by Friday it's possible that we could have snow again this year!!?!!? How crazy is that. I am a little scared about that becuz I have no idea how to drive in the stuff except really slow, but that doesn't mean the rest of my town knows to do that..

A little late but here is a finish that I did .. I am sooo proud of it and really love it. I am hoping to be able to get it framed. Bit costly right now with holiday shopping to be done. Well I cannot stay on long this evening -- gotta get some sleep and keep the toes warm. Have a wonderful week.. and weekend. I hope to be able to post again soon and more frequently.

Hotdog Pillowcase Tutorial Continued...

Ok -- I think I can finish the pillowcase in this post -- YAY!!

You will lay the body of the pillowcase face down (right side) on the top of the banding with the raw edges together. The length of the body will be hanging way down and you will want to grasp it and accordian fold it so that it lays in the middle of the casing.

Should sorta look like this -- You will see the casing, at least half of it anyways since the body of the pillowcase is laying on it. Now you will pull up and over the edge of the casing to the top of the raw edges... this will create the hot dog look -- the body being the hotdog, the banding your condiment, and the casing is the bun... cute huh? sorry for the boobage shot -- was trying to get a different view and boy did i LOL!!!

Now you will pin all these edges together down the entire length, I tend to start in the middle and work my way to each end so that there's no hiccups.... you know what I mean. You should get this look -- your hotdog!!

Now you'll take your hotdogger to the sewing machine and sew about 1/2 inch in from the raw edge....

Now here come the fun part!!! I used flannel for making most of my pillowcases during the retreat becuz of the fun prints that I found and they are super soft. But you can use nearly any type of material for these. My only caution is that when using thicker material this next step is a bit difficult. You have to turn the casing inside out and pull the body out. Using regular cotton material was super easy, but flannel can be a bit fussy. Once it's entirely pulled out -- IRON!! it flat...

You will notice that all your casing and banding edges are inside and out of sight.. YAY!! no more stringies!! At this point if you want to -- it's optional... you can use your embroidery stitches on the machine to add a decorative border stitch to the banding (the solid color) and if you're really creative.. machine embroider someone's name to casing. Yea, I'm not!! LOL

Getting to my favorite part -- the finished part!! YAY!! If you know how to do french seams, then good on ya-- that's what we are fixin to do to finish this pillowcase up -- 2 seams and you're done done done! I told you this was easy. Now with WRONG side together, pin down the edge and bottom. If you need to trim it to get it even -- do this before sewing! I like to trim about a half inch down the edge and bottom to get all edge nice and even before stitching. Once it's pinned, you will stitch a 1/4 inch seam down the side and bottom. Clip corners.

Sorry for the blurry picture, but it's a clipped corner. Now you will turn the pillowcase inside out. You will be looking at the wrong side. PRESS!!! This is soooo important. Be sure to push the edges close to the seam so that when you sew this edge again you will catch all the raw edges inside. I found that ironing this helped to keep it neat. Now back to the machine and sew anywhere from a 1/2 to 5/8 inch seam making sure that you catch all the raw edge inside so that it does not show when it's turned right side out.

Clip all your threads and press again -- making it pretty!! and TAA-DAA!! You have just made the perfect pillowcase with no raw edges and it's super easy. You'll be making up a storm I bet.

I'm BACKKKK!!!!

Whew! It's so good to be back and sleeping in my own bed with my pillow and blankies!! Don't you agree?? It doesn't matter where I go, or for how long ... I miss my bed and it's comfortable spots. Seriously, I had a wonderful time at retreat. The ladies that came were all wonderful and a bit on the crazy side!! omg... some were down right a joy to hang out with !!! Winky -- if you read this - you are a HOOT!!

I thought that I took a ton of stuff to work on but evidently I didn't. I finished a small flower quilted wall hanging in minutes it seemed, and put another quilt wall hanging together, and then started the addiction that I only have Lisa to blame for. I made 10!! yes 10!! pillowcases over the course of 4 days. There were soooo simple and easy to do. They are called hot dog pillowcases and don't take but about 15 minutes to sew. And only 3 seams!! I plan on sharing the tutorial with you in this post .. how nice am I?? tell me I need to know....HAHAHAHA!!

I hope to be able to attend more retreats like this in the future... gotta start saving my pennies again. We were out in the boonies (smiles) at a great lodge. The meeting room was wide open and quite nice to sew in. The dorm rooms provided great privacy and was spacious too. The food was DELICIOUS!! It was so great to be able to get up in the morning with breakfast ready to eat, no cooking, cleaning, or worrying about anything but sewing our little fingers off. I don't think that I have laughed my butt off more at my new friends than I have in my whole life. We truly let our hair down and just enjoyed each other's company. I. will. go. again!!

Now on to the tutorial... it's really easy to do -- just remember this little equation for the fabric needed ... You will need a 3 inch band, 9 inches for the casing, and 27 inches for the body of the pillowcase. 3 x 9 = 27... neat huh? I am showing you my godson's present for Christmas with the cut pieces that you will need. The brown print is the body (27 inches), the brown strip (3 inches), and the green print (9 inches) will all make the pillowcase.

From here you will fold the band in half and iron it flat. This will create a nice edged banding for the pillow case and helps break up the 2 prints. Now you will lay it on the green print (casing) with all the raw edges facing in the same direction, doing this will make sure we have no raw edges to deal with.

Now I will have to stop here and make another post for tomorrow since it's photo rich already. Blogspot limits the amount of photo memory sooooo tomorrow will be the finishing part .. I know that you will stay tuned for that.

GREAT NEWS!

I know I let my posts slide once again! Smack me upside the head with wet noodles.. LOL

But I have the greatest news to share with you. As most of you know that I have been working at Michaels as seasonal help as a cashier and whatever else they need me to do. Well this Saturday was a demo day and of course I was picked to do it. Really fun, goo-ey fun making snowmen with Snow-Tex product. Anyways, boss man walks by as I was finishing up one of the snowmen and says in a very serious tone, "I need to see you in my office after you are done with that...", no eye contact and he walks to the back of the store. My heart fell. I just knew that I was going to be written up for something stupid that I did or that I was getting the axe. So I am sweating beads as I am trying to prolong the finishing of the snowman. I get back there to the office and timidly knock on the door, boss man still has serious look on his face. And guess what?!?!

I GOT A PROMOTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How awesome is that?!?! I am no longer just a cashier, but a glorified one!! My official title is Front End Supervisor.. I will keep an eye on the registers, be over a few of the cashiers, and keep the front end of the store in order. You guys have no idea how happy this has made me. After being a stay at home mom for 12 yrs and thinking that I would never get a job becuz of the long space of time not being the workforce... my heart just soared. I wore a shit-eating grin all day long afterwards, floating on cloud 9. You laugh -- that's ok!

This weekend, starting on Thursday and ending Sunday, I will be gone to a quilter's retreat. My very first. I am told by some of the veterans that go to them alot that I will have a great time and I must say that I am looking forward to it. Time away from the house, work (which I don't really mind), laundry, cooking... ohh yea!! Just laying around , sewing... and you know that I am taking stitching with me.. laughing and having a good time with some awesome ladies in my quilt guild. We are even going to play Bunkco? (prolly spelled it wrong) ..which I have never played.

I will post after I get home with all the juicy and fun details of the time I had. Maybe even post some pictures of items that I completed... right ... you believe that?? HAHAHA!!

Finally a post...

I know that I haven't been able to post in awhile and it kills me that I haven't kept in touch with you guys. My job is going well... I had a little trouble remembering some procedures for credit card and check policies, but all in all it's good. I didn't realize how much I would be on my feet though, so I am learning to take it slower than my usual fast pace.

I also learned that I am OCD -- in the worst way. I go around straightening the shelves and all the products, which we are supposed to do...but I go as far as all the labels in the same direction. ARGH!! I am sooo nuts!!

But on to better and brighter things, my swap partner for Brooke's Board Interactive (yahoo group) has received his item from me so now I can share it with you. I know that he likes it -- always pleasing to know that.

If you celebrate, have a haunting Halloween tomorrow -- it's my most favorite holiday ever!! I don't dress up anymore but I LOVE seeing little guys and gals in their costumes. Makes me smile -- my godson will be Handy Manny -- his favorite cartoon character. His mom and dad even went out and got him the toolbox.. he should be adorable as ever.

No Sew Cube Tutorial

I have been wanting to do this for a long time -- but finally got the time yesterday to sit down and take photos as I put it together. Since this cube is for the postal worker that has been very friendly to me for years, I can show it without worries.

How to Make a No-Sew Cube

supplies needed:
* a styrofoam cube that is a bit larger than your stitched item
* 2 stitched pieces that will fit the cube -- you will cut it a bit larger than the cube
* fabric to cover the sides (width) of the cube plus an inch or 2
* variety of ribbon in colors that compliment your stitched pieces and fabric
* glue gun and glue
* straight pins (flat head) and 4 glass head ones that match colorwise with your stitched items
* coordinating charms or buttons
* scissors

Place your cube over the stitched item, centering as much as possible and lightly draw with pencil the sides of the cube on the wrong side of the stitched piece. This will not be seen, it will be merely a guide for the cutting. Cut outside of the pencil line about 1-2 inches so that you have something to pin to the cube.

Place your stitched piece on the front of the cube and use a pin in the center of the piece and stick into the cube's center. This helps to keep it centered and in place while pinning. Fold over each end and put in about 5 flathead pins ... 1 in the center, 1 at each end near the corner, and 1 in between the center and corner pins. Using flathead pins allows the fabric to lay flat... you will NOT remove these pins. They will stay in the cube forever. Slightly tug the fabric taut while pinning. Repeat on all 4 sides. When this is done, it should look like this -- and now for the corners. Crease the corner to one side, pulling it taut and pin, rotate and do all four sides going in the same direction. You will do this for the back of the cube with your other stitched piece, repeating all the directions as stated above.

Now for the fabric section that wraps around the cube to hide your pins and stitched piece edges. Measure the fabric to cover all 4 sides of the cube and cut off the excess leaving yourself about 2 inches for overlap. Fold over the fabric on the wrong side of the fabric to make a nice clean edge. You can glue this down so that it doesn't move. Apply glue to the cube starting at the top, along the pin line and lay your straight edge of fabric on the glue. You can do one side at a time but I find that doing both sides at once prevents wrinkles and oopies!. Once you get back to the top, fold the excess fabric under and glue into place.

Nice cube you got there!

And now for my favorite part, ribbon! Ribbon should be the easiest part to attach. Always starting at the top, glue and place ribbon around all 4 sides of the cube. I used 2 ribbons for the perimeter of the cube, a large first and then a small layered on top. Layer several strips of ribbon and tie a small piece of ribbon around the middle creating a large bow for the top, glue into place. You can accent with a button or charms using your glue gun. An option is to place glass ball pins on the bottom at each corner to make the cube stand up off the surface that it's placed. It kinda gives them "feet" if you will.

Go around and gather up any loose glue webs -- hate those things.

Wasn't this easy??

More awesome pictures to show to you!

Ok -- maybe you're wondering about the interesting critter that I mentioned on my last post ... or maybe not. =P

We were hanging Halloween lights on the porch and I was helping Donald by holding the lights up off the ground. I don't like getting on the chair at all! So he was hanging them, and I looked over at the cherry tomato plant that has been hanging since the spring. And saw this---!

Would you believe it?? A praying mantis ... I haven't seen one since I was a little kid. Granted some of you still think I am a kid LOL ... but this bad boy was just hanging out on a limb of the plant. I was like OMG -- Donald look! He was like yea ok -- whatever. I called out for Justin to come take a look -- same reaction. They have to be related!! I was snapping photos like a weirdo. At least you don't have to worry about the mantis moving while you're taking shots ... (think about that)..HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Well tomorrow evening is the big day -- I already have my clothes picked out. Gonna shower a few hours before and do my hair. I'm not going to wear a ton of make-up ... not the place for it I think. Another finish that I got done doing about 2 wks ago. It's a needlepoint purse. I got it at a garage sale for a dollar!! It was marked $17.85 and was brand new!! I love getting good deals! I hope that everyone has a wonderful week!!

I know that I promised you guys some pictures -- and I am sharing them with you this evening!! Big thanks to all of you who have wished me a happy birthday -- I so appreciate each and every one of you for that.

I'm excited about my new job, but at the same time nervousness is setting in. It's been a long time since I have really been in the working force.. and retail is totally different than working with teachers and a school setting. Stomache was churning this morning, butterflies are at work. I don't even go in till Tuesday night. I don't know what my schedule will be either as of yet. Everything will work out ---that much I know.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures -- I have more to share tomorrow. One of them involves an interesting critter -- ?? Stay tuned...!

Happy Birthday to me!!

Happy Birthday to me!!

As you can well tell I am happy on my birthday. Things started off great -- went to a friend's church garage sale, and spent some money on quilting stash. Someone cleaned out their stash, mostly fabric. I spent $10 for the lot of stash... and guess what I found??? A pair of pinking shears!!! I have wanted a pair so badly now and I wouldn't ever ask for them becuz I know they are a bit pricey... well I got a pair!!

Then off to the gym for my water aerobics class -- and when I scanned in, the staff said Happy birthday. I was like what?? how did you know? Well they have a program that notifies the staff of a birthday when the member scans in -- GREAT!! I was hoping that no one would know at the gym... well they found out. And while we are exercising, the instructor gets everyone to sing -- sigh!! I love them all dearly but UGH!! LOL

Then I get home to find none other than ...PUMPKINS!!! large medium and small ones!! I asked my family for pumpkins this year for my b-day. I have this odd fascination with pumpkins... and even love to fondle them at the grocery store. They are so big and round, and I rub them like a Buddha belly. I cannot help it. Well Donald got me 2 lg., 2 med., and 4 little happy jacks. My in-laws brought by 2 large one. They are adorning my porch steps, and I plan on taking some pictures to share with you.

Then I get a call for a job interview!! I got cleaned up and dressed nicely... and the interview was great. The manager told me that he would call me on Sunday to let me know when to be there, that's ok. Well, he called before we got home and said I have the job!!! I will be working at Michaels!! How cool will that be?? It's temporary seasonal help but it can become permanent. Fingers crossed. Also, associates' discount is 25% off -- but there's one week for appreciation and it'll be 50% off -- there goes my paycheck!! LOL

Donald and Justin take me out to dinner at my favorite place called Genghis Grill -- omg it's soooo good! And for dessert we go to Marble Slab for yummy ice cream!! So much for going to the gym!!! HA!

All in all-- It was a WONDERFUL birthday and I haven't had one of those in a long time!!

Special notice to Alice-- I hope that you don't think that I was upset with the coins -- FAR from it. Just hacked with the banks here... who know it would be so hard to get it exchanged. My bank said we don't deal with foreign currency.. I was like 'you're a bank.. it's money?!?!' LOL No worries, I might just even hang on to it for Justin to collect. Smiles!

I hope that everyone is doing well today-- I got a bit of stitching in today at the oddest spot ever. You guys are going to laugh but it was in my car ... waiting on a train!! Weird huh? But I knew that it was going to be a long train and I always carry something to stitch in my purse. So I whipped it out and got about 25 stitches in before I realized the end of the train was coming. Person next to me must have thought I'd lost my mind. But time is time -- why not "waste" it doing something I love?? I know you guys would understand that!!

So, I gotta ask -- Where's the ODDEST place you have ever stitched?

Also, I am really impressed with all the floss/b-day cards that I have got over the past 8 or so days. Would you guys believe that I have 3 copies of one color?? LOL -so hilarious!! I plan to take a picture of them adorning my dining room door jam soon.

Right now, I am stitching "Alphabet Mania" from Heart in Hand, up to letter E. And I am designing an artistic quilt with tons of other quilts in the fire,too. And I am making aprons for Christmas for family, friends, teachers, etc. So if you are reading this and you are one of the mentioned -- SURPRISE! LOL

It's all done -- all over !! You guys just have no idea how happy I am that it's all gone. To all my winners -- I will be packaging and getting them weighed on Friday -- one big trip to the post office. By Friday evening - you should have an email from me letting you know what your total is for shipping and everything. I hope that everyone had a good time and just maybe got one or two items that you wanted.

Another reason I am glad for the drawing to be done with is so that I can start showing off some finishes that I have done in the past two months. I have really outdone myself ..chest puffed out!! LOL I will show off one here for you so that you can get a taste of what I have done. This was one of the freebies that was given away this past month or so. It turned out much more beautifully than my camera took. The silk was fun to use and it has been given to a new friend.

Ok I didn't lie intentionally ... really I didn't. I just wasn't aware of how much stash I would be getting rid of. Sooooo, without further ado, and to keep you ladies from waiting so long. September is coming -- Haha!

Ok I know you must think that I am a bit nuts announcing that September is coming ... like ok you already know that and it's still the 1st week of August. So what's the deal you ask?? Welllllll, I will be getting back to giving more stash away!!! YAYYY!~!! Friday I go over to my best friend mother's house, she's cleaning her stash out. She's got tons of cool stuff, OOPs, and tons of older charts that she knows she will never ever finish in this lifetime. She's going to let me take everything that she doesn't want ... I will pick thru and take what I know I will finish... and then guess what??? You guys will reap the benefits of reading my boring blogs!! LOL

The only unfortunate problem this month is postage... I just cannot afford to send it all out. So I just have to ask for you to pay the postage -- and I will ship the very cheapest that I can. Most of the time I can send it to you media mail, which takes a bit longer but it will get there just the same. For those of you overseas, please be mindful of the exchange rate and I can only accept money orders from the post office.

That's it -- are you excited?? I know that I am ... I might be able to show some previews on Saturday and Sunday after I am done going thru the piles and piles of glorious stash.

My Critters are coming along fine...

I know it's been awhile since I have posted for you all. I have been working diligently on the Critters sets from my good friend Brooke Nolan. I finished all the Critters in set one and worked most all the ones in set two, but ran out of black Kreinik. And you cannot just finish them with something else... you just cannot. So, I have put them aside till I am able to go shopping for more Kreinik. I will show you today what I have been able to complete. Enjoy!!

Also, I thought that I would take a picture of my design wall. It's a small wall to the right of me and my desk that I put my finished projects on. Really easy to assemble if you're thinking about making one of your own. I prepared the wall by cleaning it -- mine is paneling until we are able to remodel. I washed it down with some 409, but any all-purpose cleanser will work. Then, I stapled a thin batting to the size I wanted to the wall. Then on top of that, I stapled some basic felt in a neutral color over the batting, pulling taut and folding the edges under for a clean look. It will hold lightweight fabric (like quilt blocks) all by itself but I use straight pins to hold my heavier stuff on there (like the witch sisters and Critters). It gives me inspiration and I can see what I have accomplished. If you're a quilter, this is a great wall for placing blocks and rearranging blocks until you get the look you desire.

I forgot to move my stitching frame -- oh well ...you get the idea

This is a "president's block" for the President of the Quilter's Guild that I am a member of. Each year, the new president of the Quilt Guild get a quilt of her chosen design and color made by members of the guild. I don't care to work with triangles, so this was a challenge for me. The pattern is called "rising star" and she ADORES purple. I had a wonderful instructor today at Little Quilt Factory. Ms. Barbara helped me alot with gentle criticism and a bit of ripping out seams. It's very evident that I need a quarter inch presser foot for my sewing machine!! lol But I had a wonderful time and learned that I really don't like triangles. But I love my president and did it for her!! I know that she will love her finished quilt.

A little beach time

Yesterday after Donald came home from working, we got a little spontaneous and packed the car.. drove off to the beach (Galveston). It was really spur of the moment -- and I like that. So spur of the moment that I forgot the blasted camera!! GRR! oh well. We went towards the late afternoon - early evening time. Granted the parked was crowded on the seawall, the beach area wasn't too bad. We found a pleasant area in the softer sand to park our chairs and picnic basket. We had dinner in the sand and watched the sun sink lower in the evening sky. Justin and I later frolicked in the warm water ...getting about waist deep. Donald and I walked down the shore a bit looking for shells to gather. Guess what we found?? A mermaid's purse!! It was sooo cool.

Tons of people walked over it, oblivious to what it really was. It was my treasure for the day. The seashells were very few ... no thanks to Hurricane Ike. But it was a REALLY nice time spent. I hope that we can go back again this summer and enjoy the experience all over again.

Hannah is done done done!!

I used a slightly darker shade of pink Kreinik for her hat. And something just told me to do the cross lines on her skirt in gold Kreinik. And I am glad that I listened.

Fiona Fiona Fiona -- ALL DONE!!

I am super excited to show you the pictures that I took while stitching on Fiona the past few days. She was heavy laden with Kreinik, but she's marvelous that way. Blues are my favorite color in the whole wide world... so I had tons of fun watching her come alive.

I did the raffia broom with her, too -- will prolly do the same for Hannah. I gave Fiona a necklace becuz she just needed it. I used blending filament in silver Kreinik and a single blue faceted bead for the pendant. I think she's just gorgeous, don't you agree?? I didn't add any bows to the top of the hat ... just didn't need them in my opinion.

Gwen Gwen Gwen!! all done!

Right after I finished the gingerbread cookie boy, I started on one of many Brooke Nolan's designs that I have in my stash. I tend to save her designs for last in my "to-do" pile since they are so detailed and perfect. About a week ago, I rec'd her witchy witches. I was sooo happy!! Well I started on Gwen. I think she's so whimsical.. she's a doll.

It only took me a total of 3 days to complete Gwen. Of course, I took it everywhere with me so that I didn't waste a minute. I had to change some colors. Kreinik is not so easy for me to put my hands on when I need it. So I took a chance and used all 3 colors that I had instead of the ones that Brooke suggested. I used black for her boots and cauldron. Periwinkle for the corset and sock stripes. And a pale yellow instead of the topaz for the dress folds. I don't think it was so bad.... some times you just have to make due. Also, the beaded posie was done a tad differently. Brooke suggested that each petal be done in one color alternating each petal as a different color....well you know I just cannot do that. Seeing that I had a ton of beads, I alternated each of the colors on each petal... meaning each petal had all the colors. It turned out really colorful.

Some other changes was that I had to back the hat with paper... course you don't see that but as I got to the tip it was starting to be really flimsy. And instead of a "floss broom" -- I used raffia. She was a real joy to work on and I am quite happy with her. Not too sure what I am going to do with her now. I may add a hanger to the back so that she can hang on a tree or be hung elsewhere.

My Favorite Men is complete!

I am happy to announce that "My Favorite Men" is done done done!! And it's so BIG!! I guess I didn't realize it would be. No sizing was given on the chart, so I really didn't think about it. Of course it's done on 14 ct Aida so that should have been a clue. Meagan was the first to see it last night as I finished it in the wee hours. She gave me an idea and I am going to work on it. I don't want to reveal it yet. But I think you will be pleasantly surprised when I am finished. I might even do a tutorial as I am sewing. hmmmm interested?? Enjoy the pictures everyone!!

My Favorite Men 2

Well, I have been really slaving away on this bad boy!! I am happy to say that I am ALMOST done -- ugh!- - seems like it's taking forever to finish it. I have to add some leaves of green to the top and bottom banners, add beading all about, and outline the red ribbon. Fingers crossed that tomorrow will be the big day.

I took it with me to the orthodontist and got most of the stars done ... then it was off to the library and becuz I only took the yellow thread with me -- the stars were finished in no time --

I sat around like a doofus with nothing more to stitch on it. Sigh! Wasted time was finished up though this evening while watching a DVD on the computer. I hope that you enjoy it! Come back tomorrow for I am pretty sure that it will be completed.

My Favorite Men

Well I know it's been awhile since I have posted -- But I have been stitching up a storm. I finished my ornies for the BBI Ornie Swap for July. Since I know that one of my swappers (LOL) has received her ornie, I will post it here for you to enjoy. I was lucky that she lives really close, I hope to get to know her better.

Well this post is called My Favorite Men and I haven't yet talked about it... LOL I helped my bf's mother clean up a bedroom and we came across this chart that was just barely started. Some of the outline of the cookie was done and a few of the letters. Now mind you I got this on Thursday the 9th, and this is my progress since then. It lacks a border thing at the top and bottom, and of course some beading. The chart is by Sisters and Best Friends and is called "My Favorite Men are Cookies". It's an older chart, but cute none the less. It's being done on 14 ct blue Aida with DMC colors that it called for. I am hoping to have it done before the end of the week.

Seems that Christmas has been on my mind since doing the ornie swap. I have finished my other ornie for my other swapper, but cannot post it until I know that she has got it.

Well I hope that you are having a great week so far. Justin has an orthodontist appt. on Monday morning. I always take what I am working on with me so that I am not bored. The ladies there love to "ooh" and "ahh" over my work. My plans are to make them something too. But that'll be my secret.

French Chicken and Dried Rose Petals

Ok -- if that didn't get your attention -- nothing will!! And no -- it's not some gourmet overprice recipe for disaster either!! lol I received the most wonderful card from Alice in France. Inside were some beautiful dried rose petals and a chicken magnet. And it's the CUTEST chicken magnet ever!! I love it Alice and thank you so much for thinking about me!

I know that I have been quite lazy for the past few weeks. Just been stitching and having a good time. The family reunion went over well -- and I actually swam in my new suit. We saw a bunch of family, and one uncle didn't know who I was. Such a good feeling!! No one remembered to take a camera so no pictures :-( ... hopefully next year. But let me tell you what -- it was freakin hot !! 104 degrees -- thank goodness for air conditioning! Everyone agreed that next year's reunion will be in April when it's still cooler.

I hope that your 4th of July was a good one for my US readers. It was HOTTER than blazes here again -- over 100 degrees. But a good time was had by all. Our city throws a big shindig. On Friday night we had The David Glen Band (local talent) and the Bellamy Brothers. It was a great evening for singing and entertainment. It got cooler in the evening time. Then on Saturday we had a menagerie of entertainment... from Zydeco to Country ... later that evening we had John Michael Montgomery in concert!! And of course a fireworks display... we are lucky enough to sit in our front lawn and see the fireworks. After it's all over - we grab our chairs and head inside ... no fighting traffic!!

I hope that you are enjoying some of my latest finishes. I hope to be able to complete them into a few ornies and such this summer -- but one never knows! Been reading much this summer? The last book that I read was "A Southern Belle Primer or why Princess Margaret will never be a Kappa Kappa Gamma" by Maryln Schwartz. Such a good read and funny to boot! More Finishes for you to Enjoy!

I got a question about how I am going to finish my finishes ... I don't really know. But I am totally open to suggestions! I just collect really fun freebies and charts... do them (stitch them up) and then toss them in a vanity dresser drawer until I need something for a swap or exchange. Sometimes my Mother in Law needs a gift and I will let her choose a stitched item and she finishes it into something. I never really have something in mind for a stitched item. But anything that you guys would like to suggest, I am open to listen to your ideas. really!

Tomorrow's the big day for the Brown Family Reunion... I have been cooking all day long!! UGH!! I made some coleslaw salad, mustard potato salad, brownies, and beer-boiled brats. It's gonna be buffet style and everyone just bring enough food for themselves and we all dig in about noon time. After the lunch, the kids run off and go swimming, and the old folks sit in the A/C and talk about the past.. I am NOT going to be sitting around this year -- I am gonna go swimming in my new swimsuit!! YAY!! I hope that everyone has a great weekend!!

Well we finally got some rain today -- it showered a bit this afternoon. I am thankful, wished it could have been more though. Whomever did the rain dance -- THANK YOU!!

Hope that you enjoy these finishes from this month. I remembered this time to let you know who these charts are from ... they are freebies from the Rainbow Gallery site. I don't have many Rainbow Gallery items since they can be quite pricey, so I subbed the colors with Sampler and Weeks threads. I guess you could sub in some DMC if you so desired. Oh, to answer someone's question -- the hearts are printed on the fabric -- it's from DMC ... it was super cheap at the store where I got it -- I don't care for Aida much, but when it's cheap...well you know how that goes!!

Come and Look See...

Ok I have good news for you. My weigh in for June was a week ago. I have lost 32 lbs since January. I don't remember the inches lost, but I was just happy hearing the weight. I have more to lose and I know that it will take time. YAY!!

I finished some more cross stitched items and I thought that I would share them with you....

Let me tell you this -- our summer has been HOT!! We broke a record yesterday with 101 temp. and today we are expected to get up to 100 again. It's just too damned hot!! LOL So I have been staying inside as much as possible, watching some DVDs rented from the library. I watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" last night... and stitched away. The movie was really good and I had another finish before 10:30 that evening. So if you're getting rain in your area -- please please pleaseeeeeee send some down here -- we need it. It's been over 25 days since we last got rain. This Saturday is Brown Family Reunion in Livingston, Texas... I am happy about this because I will get to show off some in my new swimsuit. Summer is here!!

I know I haven't updated you with the goings on about here... things have been wacky crazy since school let out. Justin went to a weeklong camp about 3 hrs. away. While the silence was nice, I missed the lil booger. Here's some summery pictures ... our little garden is doing so well. We are picking at least 20 cherry tomatoes a day.. and maybe 1 or 2 early girls as well.

We had a hail storm about 2 weeks ago. Let me tell you that was crazy mad -- the lightning was hitting so close to our house and then all of a sudden the temperature dropped and hail fell from the sky. I cringed at every ping on the car. The hail was about marble size .. not too big. And then the storm just moved on, like nothing ever happened.

I have been stitching like a mad woman though... since the beginning of June I have stitched 16 items. Granted they are all smalls and not in finished form... just quick sews to keep my mind busy. I have included some pictures of those, too.

Justin and I have joined the reading program with our local library. The teens are having a party if they can read 15,000 minutes before the end of July. And the adult reading program is Bingo... REALLY fun and I get cool prizes, too. I encourage all of you to check our your local library and read something new and challenging this summer.

Last Minute thoughts

I am so glad that my jewelry giveaway is over ... You're gasping or laughing I am sure ... I am just glad that it's done with. Don't get me wrong giving away fun stuff is cool and all, but it's hard work and takes it's toll on the pocketbook. But when it's all said and done, I know that I made a ton of ladies happy out there. I have been asked if I needed help with the postage, and my answer is no. I do this out of the kindness of my heart, because I want to make others happy and share my creativity. Yea the postage can be outrageous, but no one is under obligation to pay for postage. But if you so feel inclined as a winner to do something, send me a postcard from your area or whatever the voices in your head tell you to do. I rec'd a card the other day from a winner in Canada... the cutest card ever!! Made my day I must say.

But on to other things... Lori is my final winner of a surprise package. I will be emailing you soon for a mailing address.

Other news -- we have some 'mater plants growing out in the flower bed this year. I have this thing where I cannot eat what I grow. I'm sure it's a phobia of some sort. I just cannot make myself eat something that I watched grow from a cute seedling, to a flowering plant, to baby 'maters, and then picking it -- AHH -- don't make it eat it too!! Call me weird -- whatever -- I just cannot eat it. But I will happily grow it and share them with everyone!!

Today's jewelry freebie is .... something very special to me. I know you're thinking if it's so special -- why are you giving it away?!?! Well it's not my style. But I loved making it.

It's a earring and pin set, stitching entirely by me. The kit was bought by my best friend and she decided that she didn't want to complete it... so I got the kit and did it. The earrings are post, but could be converted to clip. They are made of plastic canvas and Caron threads in Painted Desert. I used the Mill Hill beads that it called for and added some clear Czech beads too. The edging is done with a fine ribbon in Garnet, I think. This is a really special set -- and I hope whomever wins it appreciates the work and love that went into it.
